Ephesus was a center of travel and commerce in the ancient world. Situated on the Aegean Sea at the mouth of the Cayster River, it was one of the most significant seaports of the ancient world.
Paul visited here while returning to Israel, but he was forced to leave the city despite vowing to return.
He never returned to Ephesus but held council from Melitus during his Third journey.
Our day also includes a visit to the church of Apostle John.
Our Pilgrimage journey continues with a Mass in the House of the Virgin Mary, where it is said that she lived after the Crucifixion and where she spent her last days.
